As a full-time sports trading professional, I’ve spent years navigating the ups and downs of various markets across multiple sports.
While football has always been a staple of my trading and betting portfolio, Lay the Draw (LTD) has been a strategy I’ve dabbled in but never mastered.
My results were inconsistent, and I often found myself questioning whether it was worth the effort compared to other markets. It was fair to say I had never truly mastered it.
I have found a few good systems that deliver via the AFP System Builder but trading it has been another story.
Anyway, the latest offering from the widely acclaimed Sports Trading Life was called “Lay The Draw Mastery” which felt apt and after receiving an invite to join early I jumped at the chance.
From the moment I started the course, it was clear that *Lay The Draw Mastery* wasn’t just about teaching strategies. It’s about helping traders operate smarter. For someone like me, who balances multiple trading systems across different sports, this was exactly what I needed. The content is streamlined, practical, and geared toward maximizing returns without requiring endless screen time.
What impressed me most was how adaptable the strategies are. Whether you’re trading part-time or managing a full portfolio like me, the course offers tools and techniques that fit seamlessly into your routine.
What Is There For Someone like me?
I am very experienced at this so usually these courses don’t offer me much that I do not already know.
But there were definitely some golden nuggets in this, even for someone like me.
While the course is packed with actionable insights, three things stood out as game-changers for my approach to LTD trading:
1. Insurance Features: Risk Management on Autopilot
One of the biggest challenges with LTD is mitigating risk when things don’t go as planned. The course’s insurance strategies, such as 2-2 and 0-0 insurance, have completely transformed how I approach this market.
These features have added a layer of security to my trades, giving me the confidence to enter markets I would have previously avoided.
What’s great about the insurance strategies is their simplicity. Once set up, there isn’t much for me to manage or concern myself over, freeing me to focus on other trades or even step away from the screen.
2. Portfolio Trading Sessions: Think Big Picture
One of the most refreshing parts of the course was the emphasis on portfolio trading. Instead of treating each match as an isolated opportunity, this module teaches you how to think in terms of the overall performance of your trades.
By spreading risk across multiple matches and focusing on cumulative profits rather than individual wins or losses, I’ve been able to approach LTD trading with a more balanced mindset. This has been a game-changer for my workflow, allowing me to integrate LTD seamlessly into my broader trading strategy.
For example, following the system from the course means I would only trade from Saturday 3pm to 5pm and that would be it for the day (if I wanted). For me this is great, since I have many other systems to operate and I can find a time slot for my lay the draw sessions to fit around everything else.
This is opposed to finding one qualifier at lunch time, one in the afternoon, one in the evening and spending the whole day doing it.
4. Live Examples and Walkthroughs
While I’ve seen plenty of trading courses offer generic advice, the live examples and walkthroughs in Lay The Draw Mastery stood out. Watching real trades play out, complete with detailed commentary from Richard on his decision-making, was incredibly valuable. These sessions showed me how to apply the strategies in real-world scenarios and gave me a clear framework to follow.
You are going to enter your trading session knowing your objectives and aiming to make a profit. Not always possible but you will learn ways to ensure you make a profit before you potentially get into any trouble.
Why This Course Works for Professionals
I am seeing really good results with this. It is fair to say, Lay The Draw Mastery isn’t just for beginners or hobbyists. As a full-time trader, I’ve found its strategies perfectly suited to professionals who need to trade efficiently. The course doesn’t waste time on fluff—it gets straight to the point, teaching you how to make the most of your trades without overcomplicating things.
For traders managing multiple systems or sports, the time-saving features like set-and-forget dual insurance and portfolio trading are invaluable. They allow you to add LTD to your repertoire without it becoming a distraction from your other markets.
The portfolio trading can allow you to limit your trading to just 2 hours per day and you can easily make a full time income from it depending on your staking level.
Areas for Improvement?
While the course is truly excellent overall, a few additions could make it even better:
1. Advanced Portfolio Insights: While the portfolio trading module is a great introduction, I’d love to see more advanced techniques used during the sessions. I didn’t see that many and not sure if Richard was trying to keep it simple but I would definitely be up for seeing more.
2. More Set And Forget Options: I appreciate they can only show us what is profitable but I would definitely be open minded to see some more set and forget strategies demonstrated. Even if we still need to refine it with our own match selection.
Final Thoughts: A Smarter Way to Trade LTD
Lay The Draw Mastery has delivered exactly what I was looking for: a smarter, more efficient way to approach LTD trading. The insurance features, set-and-forget strategies, and portfolio approach have not only made my trades more consistent but have also freed up valuable time to focus on other markets.
If you’re a professional trader looking to refine your LTD strategy or someone who wants to integrate LTD into a broader trading portfolio, this course is a must.
It’s not just about trading smarter—it’s about trading with confidence and control.
You will not regret checking this out.
