Review: A Pro’s Take On Football Trading Genie — Useful Edge or Gimmick?

AFP Member Bryan volunteered to share his review of the football trading genie to help other AFP members. Always remember, this is the experience of a pro and might be a different experience from most.

As you guys know football trading isn’t a hobby for me,it’s my job. My income depends on being efficient, accurate, and consistent day in, day out. And like anyone who’s been around the block, I’ve seen plenty of tools, dashboards, and products promising to “change the game.”

Most don’t.

They either tell you what you already know, waste your time with fluff, or are clearly built by people who’ve never placed a trade in their life.

So when I first saw Football Trading Genie™, I approached it like I approach everything: with cautious curiosity.

These days I am looking for efficiency. Something that could speed up my research process, maybe offer a fresh angle on certain markets, or just help cut the fat from my matchday process.

After a few months using it, here’s my take.

TL;DR — It’s Actually Good

Let’s get this out of the way:

The Genie is a solid tool.

If you’re a beginner or intermediate trader, it’s actually borderline revolutionary. (And I think beginners will do best with this)

But even as a pro who already has systems dialled in, I’ve found real value in it, just in a slightly different way than most probably use it.

How I Use Football Trading Genie (And How I Don’t)

From my limited discussions with other genie members it sounds like some seem to load up a match, read the Genie’s breakdown, and follow the directive as-is.

For me, that’s too passive.

I don’t want someone to tell me “Lay the Draw from the start.” I want context, rationale, and a second opinion. And that’s where Genie delivers.

I’ll run a match through the Genie, take a look at the suggested strategy, then decide on the entry point myself based on the market prices and my own risk-reward model.

So if Genie says LTD from kickoff, but I see more value entering at 15 mins with a stable price and better cover, I’ll wait. If Genie suggests Over 2.5, I’ll cross-check with my models to see if it aligns with my in-play numbers I look for. I will, like most football traders, wait for the match to warm up and hit a certain xG or shots on target and THEN i will go in.

I think “blind following” of anything is the root to the poor house. Lets face it, has anyone ever got rich by blindly following anything? You need to use your own noggin in anything in life if you want to be better than everyone else.

Where It Fits In My Workflow

Here’s a typical wet cold Tuesday for me now:

  • Morning coffee.
  • Load up Genie and see what is available.
  • Pick out 8–10 matches I’m interested in.
  • Run them through Genie while I check prices
  • Shortlist my trades.
  • Hit the gym!

It’s a time-saver, but also a signal booster. There are matches I would’ve skipped that Genie flagged up and they turned out to be decent trades.

That alone makes it worthwhile.

From the looks of it, you can only look at matches that same day so you can’t look ahead to tomorrow or the weekend until your there. Not a huge issue but wanted to point that out as I know some PROS do like to plan a whole weekend of trading on a Thursday so that might be inconvenient.

For me I go day by day so it is fine for me.

Direction With Flexibility

It is interesting to and good to note that the Genie doesn’t speak in riddles or hedge its bets.

It gives a clear directive. Sometimes it’s aggressive (Lay the Draw early), sometimes it’s more cautious (Insurance with LTD).

But what I appreciate is that it treats each match individually. It’s not template analysis. There’s nuance to the way it approaches momentum, shape, and historical profiles.

And even when I don’t follow the exact directive, it sparks better thinking. That’s worth its weight in gold.

A Few Suggestions for the Future

This is version 1 and it shows in places. The mobile experience could definitely be improved (app please?)

The Genie isn’t perfect. Every now and then the pricing is a bit off like it is lagging behind the Betfair prices. Not the biggest deal but one or two matches had a big discrepancy by the time we got to kick off. Whether that affects the analysis or not, I am not sure?

Once or twice I’ve seen it make a directional assumption that didn’t make sense based on team profiles. But again, if you’ve got experience, you spot that stuff easily.

So you still have to do some filtering, but instead of filtering stats, you are just filtering trade suggestions.

Still, I’ve got a few suggestions I’d love to see in future:

  1. Top 3 Daily Trades by Strategy
I’d love to be able to say: “Show me your best three ‘Lay the Draw’ setups today” and get three confident picks. It’d let me zone in on high-quality edges faster.
  2. In-Play Updates or Half-Time Guidance
A half-time prompt that says “This is still looking good” or “Momentum has shifted, consider X” would be next level. Especially for 2nd half or exit-based strategies

Again, I know it’s early days and I already sent these in as a request. These will likely come with time but for a pro, they’d be game-changers.

Would I Recommend It to Other Pros?

Yes, with a caveat.

Don’t expect this to replace your edge. It won’t.

But if you already know what you’re doing, you’ve got your bankroll management, your markets, your strategies, Genie gives you a second set of eyes.

It’s fast. It’s clear. It’s reliable most of the time. And it helps you squeeze more out of your trading day without adding more to your plate.

If you’re serious about streamlining your research or expanding the number of matches you can monitor intelligently, Genie earns its keep.

AFP VERDICT

I’ve tested most of the tools in this space. Very few make it past a month with me.

Football Trading Genie is still in the mix and I have commited to a year with it. I could well be a lifer if those new features materialise.

It saves me time. It sharpens my thinking. And on more than one occasion, it’s given me trades I would’ve missed. That’s all I need.

If you’re a pro? Get it. Use it your way. And don’t be surprised if it becomes a regular part of your pre-match ritual.

For AFP VIP members, if you get the chance to buy it, take it!!!
